Newly-elected U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt on Sunday criticized President Biden for nominating attorney Gigi Sohn to fill a vacancy on the Federal Communications Commission.

"She's not supportive of freedom of expression in the first amendment," Schmitt said on Fox News. "And she also views her role as a bureaucrat of pushing an agenda that Congress has never approved. This is a big issue with the administrative state. They're taking on powers and duties they're not supposed to have."

Sohn has come under fire from some in the GOP over her qualifications and comments she made about conservative social media. The fifth spot on the FCC panel has been vacant for some time.

Schmitt also took aim at Transporation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the handling of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

"A lot of these folks who claim to be environmentalists don't care much about the environment," Schmitt said. "They care about climate alarmism to scare people so they can gather more and more power and control. That's what this is about, but again the Biden administration, and Pete Buttigieg specifically, has absolutely failed on this Ohio environmental disaster."
