ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The pandemic took away last year's Memorial Day weekend tradition of local Boy Scouts planting American flags next to the graves in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. But now it's back and has been stretched into a four-day event that begins Wednesday.
This is the 71st Memorial Day Good Turn for the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America – one of the longest-running Boy Scout Memorial Day events in the nation.
Thousands of scouts show up each year to place flags at each of the 150,000 head stones honoring war veterans. This year's event begins Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with some COVID-19 safety guidelines in place.
Scouts will also be out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Council Jewish Committee on Scout’s Annual Good Turn is also happening on Sunday at eight Jewish cemeteries in the area.
