His larger-than-life bronze sculptures of famous sports and historical figures grace stadiums and public spaces across the US, China, and Africa, and St. Louis native Harry Weber is now getting an honor along the St Louis Walk-of-Fame in the Delmar Loop.
Weber says it's a team-effort to get one of his large bronze sculptures from the design phase to installation, "nobody can really do that by themselves, it's almost an industrial enterprise. I've got the same group of mold-makers, and welders and foundry-men that I've had for 25-years."
"I get to do the easy part," says Weber about the process, "I do the original art, then the mold-makers take over, and the foundry-people and the welders. Supposedly I supervise, but basically I go in and say 'yeah, looks good!"
Weber has been sculpting since 1977, but he says he didn't, "really make a living at it, until 1995."
Weber's star is located in front of the Peacock Diner along the Delmar Loop.
