Missouri's Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is running for Governor in 2024.
Ashcroft joined KMOX's sister station 97.1 FM to share more about the choice to run.
"There's so much more I wanna do for the people in the state — they've allowed me to serve for going on seven years now as Secretary of State, and I want to continue to do that as long as they'll allow me," Ashcroft said. "There's so many things we can do, and we need to get government out of the way to allow people to be the best they can be."
In a press release, Ashcroft said that he's looking to states like Florida, Texas and Tennessee as examples of good conservative leadership "while Missouri Republicans, who control every statewide office and have supermajorities in both chambers of the legislature, have failed to deliver."
Ashcroft joins a Republican field which currently includes Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe, who announced his run a year ago, and State Senator Bill Eigel, who hasn't announced his run yet. However, Eigel is running Facebook ads that criticize both Kehoe and Ashcroft.
