ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -A section of the former Saint Louis City Police Headquarters building broke-off Thursday morning and landed on the sidewalk below.
St. Louis City Police say the chunk came off the building, which is now being used for police academy training, on Spruce near Tucker around 7:30 a.m.
Luckily, no injuries were reported.
On the sidewalk, there were thousands of pieces of concrete remains from a window header up on the fourth floor of the St. Louis City Metropolitan Police Academy.

The city's building inspector was called out to investigate.
According to a statement from Richard Bradley, the president of the Board of Public Service in St. Louis City, the window header that fell from the building was likely a result of aged porous stone façade of the building, soaking up moisture which froze during low temperatures and thawed during high temperatures.

Bradley says they are working with a masonry contractor who has done work on the building recently to assess the window header and take steps to prevent another fall from happening.
Bradley says in the statement that while there is other work on the academy that is ongoing at this time, including tuck pointing and other façade improvements being done recently outside the St. Louis City Police Department.
