Next month the Missouri State Highway Patrol will use a historic building Webster University wishes to tear down to conduct a specific kind of training.
They will use the Luhr Library Building to practice active shooter drills.
Periodically throughout November and December troopers will be training at the historic building, utilizing its multi-floor layout, varied room dimensions, and elevators to conduct various kinds of training.
Sgt. Dallas Thompson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says it can be hard to find an abandoned building in good enough shape to conduct this training. He says last year they used a unique building, the abandoned hospital Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington.
"Lots of rooms, operating rooms, patient rooms, office areas - that was very unique. We never had a building that size."
The training includes entering the building, conducting searches and clearing rooms.
