ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) officer has been accused of recording a fatal traffic incident on his personal cell phone and would later share it to friends on Snapchat.

Griffin Montgomery, 30, has been charged with one count of misuse of official information by a public servant, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

According to a probable cause statement, on Feb. 24, 2024, Montgomery allegedly logged into the Real Time Crime Center and found a recording of a traffic incident involving two pedestrians who were struck and killed.

Montgomery then recorded the footage on his personal cell phone and allegedly shared it to friends on Snapchat.

The probable cause statement says some of the friends Montgomery shared it included individuals who are not currently employed by SLMPD.

Montgomery did not have any official duty or involvement in the investigation into the original traffic incident.
