ST. LOUIS (KMOX) Late Tuesday evening the St. Louis Public Schools Board of education sent out a press release on Superintendent Doctor Keisha Scarlett's fate with the district.
The Board of Education has made decisions tonight regarding District leadership, including the initiation of the process to terminate Superintendent Dr. Keisha Scarlett’s contract and the appointment of Dr. Millicent Borishade as Interim Superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year.
On July 25, 2024, the Board of Education voted to hire an outside firm to conduct an investigation to review the District's operations over the last year. Monday, September 23, 2024, during a special closed session, the Board met with its external investigators and discussed the investigation.
At Monday’s special closed session, the Board also voted 6-0 to notify Dr. Keisha Scarlett of its intent to terminate her contract for cause. Pursuant to her employment contract, Dr. Scarlett has the right to request a hearing before the Board of Education to contest the decision. If Dr. Scarlett elects to contest, she will remain on administrative leave until her hearing before the Board of Education. If requested, the hearing is expected to take place before the end of October.
Dr. Millicent Borishade has been serving as Acting Superintendent since July 25, 2024.
Dr. Borishade holds superintendent certificates in Illinois and Washington and has submitted the required documentation to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to obtain her Missouri Superintendent’s Certification.
Tuesday, the Board voted to appoint Dr. Borishade as Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, pending DESE approval of her certification.
