Small earthquake shakes parts of St. Louis County overnight

EUREKA (KMOX) - Officials are reporting a small earthquake that shook part of St. Louis County on Tuesday morning.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 2.4 quake hit in Eureka around 2:38 a.m. It originated south of Interstate 44 near Route 66 State Park and just west of the Meramec River. It had a reported depth of about 10 miles (17 km).

There have been 11 recorded responses to the small earthquake – including St. Charles County and parts of south and west St. Louis County – with the highest being a level 3 on the intensity map. That is considered "weak" shaking with "none" damage. The scale goes up to a 10+ level.
