ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - What if you wanted to go see live music, but you really want to hang out in a bar where people are drinking, maybe even sloppy drunk?

There is now a solution for that with the Garage at the Intersection, a new monthly sober music series.

"Every month, we're going to put on these show, usually Saturday afternoons and we're going to try and have a diverse style of performers," said Aaron Perlut, who founded the series on Total Information A.M. Wednesday morning.

Perlut says he has been pondering the idea of a sober concert series for a while, but it really turned series after a talk with Kranzberg Art Foundation executive director Chris Hansen while he was doing his day job at Elasticity.

"I asked him if he was willing to donate some space to me because Kranzberg has bought a lot of space in the Grand Center-area," said Perlut. "He immediately pointed one and said 'How about that one?' Through the generosity of the art foundation, they have essentially have provided us with this space, which was right up Washington Avenue."

Perlut says one of the keys to the monthly concert is that for those who would like to attend, a donation must be made and it can be any amount, ranging from as small as five cents , five dollars, or more. The money will be divided between whatever artist is playing and a charity called Hope Creates, which creates curriculum and help people that struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. .

While there will be no alcohol permitted at the concert, people will be allowed to bring some non-alcoholic beverages and food. Along with that, Four Hands Brewing will also be donating non-alcoholic beer.

"It's just meant to create a really comfortable space where you don't have to go and expect to be surrounded by booze at every turn," said Perlut. "We wanted to create a sober space where you can go and enjoy music."

The first artist to take the stage at the Garage at the Intersection is Alex Huck, scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. The space is located at 3323 Washington Ave.
