The head of the Catholic Church in St. Louis is urging voters to reject recreational marijuana on the November ballot.
"It wouldn't stay in the just 21 and over age bracket, " says St. Louis Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski, "it would affect our teenagers, inevitably." Rozanski tells KMOX he also believes it would impact the safety of citizens. The Archbishop says he's concerned recreational marijuana would lead to more accidents on the road and in the workplace from people under the influence.
As a teenager in the 1970s, Rozanski says marijuana was all around him, but he never tried it, because he was afraid of his parents. He says for some friends who did--it led to other drugs.
Supporters of the proposal say it would raise much-needed tax revenue, and allow people arrested in the past on low-level marijuana charges to seek to have their records cleared.
