ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Saint Louis Art Museum announced it has received promise of a multi-million dollar gift that includes 22 "masterpieces" from world-famous artists like Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.

The gift is among the most significant in the museum's 142-year history and comes from Emily Rauh Pulitzer, continuing a legacy of patronage by the Pulitzer family that dates back more than 90 years. She and her late husband Joseph Pulitzer Jr. have donated 144 works of art to the museum.

The works – which primarily are paintings and sculptures by 20th-century European and American artists – will be transferred to the museum at or before Mrs. Pulitzer's death, as she chooses.

The museum didn't estimate the total value of the pieces, but a few of them could have been sold for around $200 million at auction, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
