ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have dismissed their head of security after he used 'very inappropriate language' during a conference call.

Phil Melcher, who has been the Cardinals head of Security, was let go by the club after he used what was termed by the team 'very inappropriate and hurtful language' during a regularly scheduled conference call on Oct. 13.

The conference call featured Cardinals representatives, along with various members of the St. Louis community.

"Such language was completely unacceptable and is not tolerated by the St. Louis Cardinals organization," said the team in a statement, "Regardless of the circumstances, and it does not, in any respect, reflect or represent who we are as an organization."

The Cardinals also say that they immediately apologized to the people who were on the call after the comments were made.

Melcher was the Head of Security since 2017, according to his LinkedIn. Before that, he was in the US Army Special Forces for 13 years.

KMOX has reached out to the Cardinals for additional information, but they declined to comment more other than the statement they've released to the media.
