CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) — "This pandemic is far from over."
That declaration from St. Louis County Executive Sam Page Wednesday morning as concern over the Delta variant grows.
It accounts for more than 80% of infections in parts of the Midwest, while overwhelming hospitals in rural Missouri where there's been a sharp rise in hospitalizations in the last month.
In St. Louis County, Page declared the 7-day rolling average of daily COVID-19 cases rose 35% in the past week. That's an average of around 90 cases a day, as opposed to around 20 a month ago.
Page urged people to get vaccinated, as the new cases outpace the rate of new vaccinations.
He noted the rising number of younger people getting infected lately, and called on teens to get vaccinated with the school year starting in about a month.
St. Louis County joined St. Louis city and Jefferson County in asking for indoor masks once again this week.
