Owners of 70 St. Louis-area Jack in the Box restaurants file for bankruptcy

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The owners of 70 Jack in the Box locations in Missouri and Illinois have filed for bankruptcy due to increased competition and the pandemic, according to court documents.

The St. Louis Business Journal reports, Missouri Jack, Illinois Jack and Conquest Foods filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday in St. Louis and listed up to a combined $100 million in assets and liabilities.

The companies proposed closing seven or eight unprofitable restaurants, but couldn’t strike an agreement with the bank, the report says.

They operate 57 restaurants in Missouri and 13 restaurants in Illinois, with mroe than 1,600 workers.
