ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis is set to see more affordable housing in the area.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones joined Total Information A.M. Monday to discuss the city's announcement in regards to affordable housing, where 127 affordable housing units are set to be online with the help of the St. Louis Community Development Administration.
According to Jones, Community Development Administration will invest $26 million through CPDG funds to help support social services, create affordable housing options and improve infrastructure in St. Louis.
Jones says $2 million of that money will go directly to the St. Louis Housing Authority to help bring back and renovate approximately 127 units.
The money will also used to help construct and build single family homes too.
"The root cause for the reason of why some of our neighbors are unhoused is lack of affordable housing," said Jones.
Jones thinks the commitment from the city to help build more affordable housing will help stop families from leaving the city, an issue that has been growing for years.
"We have to provide choices for our families that are looking for affordable housing," said Jones, "We need a diverse array of options for families to stay in St. Louis."
St. Louis Housing Authority Executive Director Alana Green says it is important for their families to have diverse affordable housing options.
"I think what's important and critical is that families be given a choice," said Green, "We like to see out families choose where they live instead of being directed."
