ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department say they found over 20 neglected dogs on a property on Riverview Boulevard in north St. Louis Monday.

According to police, District 6 officers conducted a search warrant in the 8000 block of Riverview as part of a ongoing investigation into reports of animal cruelty.

When officers searched the property, they found the dogs who all sustained obvious signs of neglect and abuse and also found several weapons.

Police say a suspect was arrested at the location for several charges including felony animal abuse, improper disposal of a deceased animal, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The Center for Animal Rescue and Enrichment of St. Louis, also known as CARE STL says they have taken in the dogs and have set up temporary crates and kennels to house and care for the dogs.

CARE STL says the dogs are expected to be at CARE STL for at least 30 days, or until the case has been closed.
