(ST. LOUIS) - St. Louis Police make arrest following an early Sunday morning street takeover in North St. Louis.

The following Statement was released by SLMPD on social media:

Everyone in #STL deserves to get home safely. After #SLMPD officers broke up a street takeover at Grand and W. Florissant, this photo appeared on a street takeover channel.

The caption, which we censored, made it pretty clear someone wasn’t happy to see us or thrilled with how their night ended. District 6 and SWAT officers responded around 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving multiple calls about the takeover, including reports of shots fired. About 100 vehicles were involved.

As officers arrived, numerous drivers fled recklessly, putting others on the road at risk. SWAT officers used spike strips on more than 50 vehicles as drivers fled. The strips are designed to let air escape slowly so the tires deflate gradually. During the response, a group of men began throwing fireworks toward an officer.

The group ran as officers approached, and officers arrested a 22-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska. He has been charged. Thank you to everyone who called to report what was happening.

Our streets are for everyone, and we’ll keep taking action when street takeovers put our community in danger.
