A couple of top lieutenants stick up for the Circuit Attorney in Jefferson City.
Missouri House members heard testimony Monday from staffers in the Circuit Attorney's Office about why they oppose a bill to have the state step in to prosecute violent crime cases in St. Louis.
Redditt Hudson works in Diversion and Alternative Prosecution for Kim Gardner. "I think the inescapable reality of this legislation is that it disenfranchises the thousands of voters in St. Louis who have now twice voted overwhelmingly to elect Kimberly Gardner as Circuit Attorney."
Chief Warrant Officer Chris Hinkley blames the 2016 Castle Law, which allows people to freely carry weapons, as a cause for the City's violence problem. "You wouldn't believe the number of time firearms, which in the past wouldn't even be discussed, are now the go to answer."
Gardner elected late last week not to attend the hearing. The proposal would allow the Governor to appoint a special prosecutor when homicide cases reach 35 per hundred thousand residents.
