The man who took the Rams from St. Louis is now fighting a California city over, yes, public money.
The Rams owner who infamously trashed St. Louis on his way out the door is now suing the city of Inglewood, California for $400M.
The fight is over improvements made around SoFi Stadium, which Kroenke bragged about building without public money. He hammered that contrast home as he was pulling the Rams out of St. Louis, where he'd been pressing for hundreds of millions in taxpayer support for a new stadium.
"Contrary to a lot of reports, I haven't taken a lot of jack out of the market. I think that's what's important. I have put a lot of jack into the market." Now, a decade later, he's reaching for public money anyway.
Inglewood says the 2015 agreement Kroenke is citing was invalidated by a court ruling.
Remember, Kroenke had to pay the region $790M to settle our lawsuit over the Rams' move, and the fight over how to spend that settlement money is still tearing through City Hall, while St. Louis County has already tore through much of its share.
