ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Temperatures are expected to to dip into the single digits this week in St. Louis and a local pet rescue group posted a frightful message about allowing dogs inside when it's cold.
The warning posted on Stray Rescue of St. Louis' Facebook page shows a dog house that was apparently left out in the cold that had a female dog inside with "newborn puppies, all also frozen to death."
They believe the dog house and animals were left out in the cold "in the middle of nowhere" on purpose.
"We are so sorry to give you this horrific and sickening news, but this is reality. This is why we beg people to bring their pets in during these dangerous and deadly temperatures," stated the Facebook post. "Even if you have to put them in your basement - do it. They will not survive in these temperatures. Please. So we don't have gut wrenching mornings like this. Doghouses and straw are NOT ENOUGH WHEN IT'S THIS COLD."
