ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Teamsters have averted a strike against UPS. Chris Tongay, Principal Officer and Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 688 in St. Louis, tells KMOX the union had been bargaining for several months.
"We had a couple of issues regarding two tier wage scales for delivery drivers that got addressed and our demands were met." Tongay says another sticking point was part time drivers were starting around $16.00 per hour. "And that wasn't competitive in the local job market because you can go any place to make that kind of money and the work at UPS is very physically demanding."
Tongay expects Local 688 Teamster to ratify the deal early next month.
