Ameren Missouri officials are expected to provide an update on power restoration efforts early Monday, as thousands remain without electricity following weekend storms.

At last report, more than 36,500 customers in Saint Louis County remain without electricity. In the city of Saint Louis it's just over 11,000.

In the Metro-East... , Ameren Illinois reports 4,400 without power in Madison County, 4,900 in Saint Clair, and 4,100 in Monroe County.

Previous story: More than 150,000 customers across the bi-state region lost power during severe storms that swept through the Midwest Friday and Saturday.

At the height of the storms, Ameren Missouri was reporting close to 80,000 outages, with Ameren Illinois at more than 60,000.

Ameren Illinois V.P. of Electric Operations Distribution Craig Gilson told KMOX the company's bringing extra workers to help restore power as quickly as possible.

"We really understand what this does to our customers and we appreciate their patience," said Gilson. "We know it's going to be hot; we're bringing additional resources in."

Ameren Missouri suggested it could take days before power is restored to all customers. The recent storms included torrential rains and straight-line wind gusts around 70 m.p.h, leading to downed trees and power lines across the region.
