OLIVETTE, Mo. (KMOX)- The rescue of two exotic cats is putting a strain on the Olivette location of the Animal Protective Association of Missouri.
"At the APA of course we want to make sure that pets are safe and cared for and in an environment that is appropriate," says Sarah Javier, President and CEO of the APA. "So we at the Olivette shelter have had to shift some things around to accommodate the specific needs of these cats. Specifically space."
"We don't want to house them with any other animals so the room that they're utilizing has no other pets but to make that happen we had to move dogs out of that space and that has created a situation of overcrowding in other areas of the shelter."
Javier tells us the APA is under a contract with St Louis County. Part of that contract is helping take care of pets in the community
"At this location we have things such as a ram, a goat, chickens, quail and we even had an alligator," Javier tells KMOX.
The APA says they can't legally tell us any details about the exotic cats, but if you're interested in adopting a house cat you can go to their website or visit their Olivette location. The free adoptions are from November 8th through the 10th and only at the Olivette location.
