Did you know that 18% of Missouri's population is over 65 years-old?
That's equal to about 1.1 million people.
Chief of the Bureau of Senior Program with Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services, Mindy Ulstad, said the number of seniors in the state is expected to outnumber the number of minors by 2030.
By 2060, she said that gap will be "significant."
Ulstad said the increase will also impact the number of healthcare workers needed, which is already a problem nationwide. And that healthcare burdens will continue to shift onto Missouri families, who already provide about $11 billion worth of unpaid labor.
She went into depth on those subjects and more with KMOX's Jade Aubrey on Monday.
