ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — St. Louis voters got to pick as many mayoral candidates as they liked, and the top two choices were Treasurer Tishaura Jones and Alderwoman Cara Spencer.
Jones finished on top in the race for Mayor Tuesday, being chosen by almost 57% of voters, and takes on Alderwoman Spencer in the April general election after she got 46% of the vote.
"We will most certainly be outspent," Jones told supporters in a virtual watch party. "And the powerful special interests will be in favor of the status quo. And the city hall political establishment will pull out all the stops to beat us."
Meanwhile, Spencer spoke to supporters in a South City backyard about her record. "The folks who wanted us to privatize our airport, and the folks who have done not-so-nice things to north St. Louis...we have changed the dialogue."
Aldermanic Board President Lewis Reed came in third with 258-percent of the vote. He declined an interview with KMOX. Businessman Andrew Jones only garnered 9-percent of the vote.
Tishaura Jones and Cara Spencer will be the two candidates on the ballot for St. Louis Mayor in the general election on April 6.
