ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Norbert Leo Butz is set to release a new album Friday night, and alongside the album will feature someone very close to the St. Louis-native.

The two-time Tony Award winner joined 'Hancock and Kelley' Friday to discuss his fourth solo album 'King of Hearts' which comes out at midnight.

Butz wrote some songs for the album alongside his 26-year-old daughter, dating back to the COVID-19 shutdowns in 2020.

"It's kind of a father-daughter project," said Butz, "My oldest daughter, she's a really fine songwriter, writing songs since she was a teenager. She's like 'Dad, Is this good?' I tell her 'Yeah these are really good, so good I want to record a couple of them.'"

Butz says that while the COVID-19 shutdowns back in 2020 were a real disruptor to everyone, there were real benefits during that time for him, including having all three of daughters under the same roof.

"The benefits that came from that time, having three of my kids all under my roof," said Butz, "It was phenomenal, having dinner every night together, making music."

Butz also discusses the celebration event is also taking place Friday night at The Sheldon which begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, where Butz will also have a concert at the event. Butz says that playing at The Sheldon was one of his bucket list goals.

"I always wanted to play there," said Butz, "I sang there for a benefit years ago."

The event will also feature special guest Indie Folk Artist Devon Cahill and her band.
