ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The newly formed United Football League inaugural season is a little over two weeks away with the first weeks of games set to begin on Saturday, March 30. But before the season begins, the league announced where the final game of the season will be and you won't have to go far.
The newly formed football spring league, after a merger with the XFL and USFL, announced Thursday the league's first championship will take place in St. Louis, with the Dome At America's Center hosting the game which will take place Sunday, June 16.
"Mayor Jones, The Dome at America’s Center staff, and the great team at Explore St. Louis have all been incredible partners, working tirelessly to support the Battlehawks and encourage the League to bring the Championship here," said UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon in a release. "We couldn’t be more excited and look forward to the city's welcome on June 16."
Brandon says that he knew St. Louis had to be involved in hosting a championship game as he was going for a morning jog the day of the Battlehawks season opener last year.
Since the Battlehawks began play in 2020, the team has been at the top of attendance when they were a part of the XFL. Last year, the Battlehawks led the XFL with an attendance of 175,121 for their five home games, which included a record-setting 38,310 for their home opener.
"Setting the standard for this league is the St. Louis fan base." said Battlehawks head coach Anthony Becht. "We gotta make [the dome] a hard place to play."
UFL team season ticket members will have the first opportunity ahead of the general public to purchase tickets for the UFL Championship. Additional details about the UFL Championship Game, including ticket information, will be announced at a later date.
The UFL campaign will begin Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader that will include the St. Louis Battlehawks visiting the Michigan Panthers. The Battlehawks first home game of 2024 will be Saturday, April 6 when they take on the Arlington Renegades.
