COLUMBIA, MO (KMOX) - The University of Missouri President is demanding action, from Columbia Police, Columbia's Mayor, this city manager and the Boone County Prosecutor.
This action comes after a triple shooting Saturday, that critically injuring one. Among the gunshot victims, a Stephens College student.
Mun Choi says he will involve Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe if city government keeps its head in the sand over spiraling crime and the chaos of un-addressed homelessness.
Terming the situation a "period of emergency," Choi says he wants increased downtown police presence; more police resources for a department he praised; and full criminal prosecution. Choi adds, "we cannot wait to have another tragic outcome due to complacency, delays and indecision."
Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe responded with a facebook posting saying, she is convening a task force of city, county, university, business, and community leaders to address safety in a comprehensive and coordinated way.
Choi says he has asked the Mizzou Police chief to place all available police resources to patrol downtown.
The following is a statement President Choi released:
