The unidentified body of a well-dressed man who had been shot to death was discovered in 1984 by a Troy, Missouri farmer in an outbuilding. Now, the victim has been identified through DNA as a missing Florissant real estate agent.
Jack Langeneckert was 52 when he vanished. Two years earlier, in 1982, his car was found at Lambert Airport. There were pleas for anyone who knew anything to come forward.
"I really need people who knew Jack from the '80's before he went missing to reach us so that we can start to learn about his life," the sheriff's department said.
Lincoln County Sheriff's Captain David Hill says his murder investigation is now wide open.
"Figuring out his life, figuring out why someone would want to murder him, and that's going to involve business records, contacts with people. We really have to establish a pattern of life for him." Hill says.
They believe his relatives filed a missing persons report at the time he disappeared, but investigators are working to get more details.
Anyone with information on Jack Langeneckert is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff at 636-528-6100.
Anthropology researchers at Southeast Missouri State University helped identify Langeneckert.
