Voice of Caring: Arts as Healing Foundation

Providing free art instruction to people with cancer and other chronic illnesses

Arts as Healing Foundation

Arts As Healing Foundation (AAH) is a St. Louis nonprofit providing free art instruction to people with cancer and other chronic illnesses. Classes are held in hospital infusion centers, waiting rooms, and chairside/bedside at Siteman Cancer Centers and Missouri Baptist Hospital Cancer Center. Community classes are at AAH's Studio, a welcoming, non-medical environment. Patients served are from 250 zip codes in the bi-state area. These art classes are truly transformative. Participants create individual and collaborative works that speak to the healing power of this program.

In March 2020, all in-person AAH classes and live fundraising events were suspended because of the pandemic. In response, we developed weekly, online classes with free art kits provided to participants.

LISTEN: Founder and Executive Director Vicki Freidman tells us how the Arts As Healing Foundation was founded, how it helps those with chronic illnesses and how you can help.

These classes are very popular; they help keep our immune-compromised participants focused on art instead of their illnesses. However, they are also more expensive because the art kits are provided individually as opposed to a shared inventory in a class setting.

We seek to expand our online reach to a more diverse population in the Greater St. Louis Community. Our goal is to introduce participants to the magic of art and reduce the stress and loneliness associated with serious illness. Your donations help us to reach more people in this challenging time. A donation of only $100 will support one participant for 5 classes while $5,000 will support 20 participants for 12 classes. All tax-deductible contributions are greatly appreciated.
