West Alton, Mo. (KMOX) - A truck driver from Godfrey, identified as a murder suspect, is dead after an hours long standoff with police in St. Charles County.

Corporal Barry Bayles says 28-year-old Clyde Young called dispatch Thursday morning and asked to meet at a West Alton gas station to discuss his involvement in his girlfriend's death.

Bayles says Young changed his mind by the time police arrived, and the standoff began at the Phillips 66.

After about three hours of negotiations to get him to surrender, Bayles says Young went to his vehicle and grabbed a gun. Shots were fired. Investigators determined Young took his own life. An officer also fired one round.

Bayles identified the murder victim as 41-year-old Amy Delacruz of Cadet, Missouri.

She was found dead in the 1000 block of North Service Road in Foristell.
