Last Friday, a woman was arrested after she exchanged fire with police officers outside the Social Security Office. She was then released without charges. The woman, Jada Davis, said in an interview with KMOX that police had her story wrong.
Police reported that Davis had intended to shoot up the Social Security Office — but Davis disputed that claim. She said she was there to do business that morning, and since she lives in her van, she was parked outside.
"Why would I?" Davis asked, regarding the idea that she wanted to shoot up the office. "I never spoke to a security officer. This is what Channel Five is saying. The social security officer said that I talked to him and threatened to shoot up. When did I talk to him if I never left my vehicle? When did I talk to him if he never came to my vehicle I let the window down? It's one o'clock in the morning, I went to sleep."
Davis said that when police approached her that morning and appeared to be ready to break into her van, she reminded them of the warning written outside of the van.
"There's consequences, repercussions for busting the window on this car," she said. "And it's publicly known if you bust a window on this I'm gonna cap out of it."
Davis said she fired what she considered to be a warning shot after they broke her window. Then, she said, she grabbed a white towel and started waving it.
"They still shoot while I'm waving the white towel," she said. She continued on to say that she ended up tossing the bullets in her gun out of her window and then surrendered. She denied that she was ever trying to harm the police.
"I'm not a danger, I did not shoot in their direction," Davis told KMOX. "That's why they cannot charge me, and did not charge me, with armed criminal action nor assaulting an officer."
Davis was later charged with two felonies — unlawful use of a firearm and armed criminal action.
