The Jefferson County Sheriff says they've found the body of a woman who's been missing since her husband was found murdered.

Robert Malcom was discovered in the couple's Dittmer home August 30th. An extensive search for his wife -- Stacy Jay-Malcolm -- has been underway ever since.

Her body was discovered in a wooded area on private property nearby their home Sunday.

While Jay-Malcom's cause of her death remains under investigation, law enforcement says initial evidence suggests she overdosed and there were no signs of trauma. The Sheriff's department is calling it a murder-suicide.

Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Whitney says they believe Stacy Jay-Malcolm was responsible for her husband's death.

"Early evidence suggests that she may have been responsible."

KMOX asked what evidence they have.

"The positioning of the gunshot wound to was the body removed [after] being shot."

The investigation remains ongoing, as questions linger, such as Stacy-Malcom's motivation.

"Communication with family and friends is important but there was no early indication in terms of a motivation."

These are based off the initial findings and Whtiney says they are subject to change. Officials say they are confident this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
