"Things happen...whether it's you just had a baby or your husband is deployed...there's all different scenerios where you might lose control of your house and feel too embarassed to ask for help."
Rebecca Hopkins says it's not judgemental: It's not a handout just a hand. She runs the O'Fallon, Illinois branch of Hot Mess Express.
She tells Total Information AM their first mission was a mom who broke her leg and had no mobility and lost control of the house. It had gotten to the point where it was difficult for her to get around.
"We had another mission where the dad had ALS and with all the medical supplies they were having to deal with and all the machines they just lost control and they didn't know how to organize it."
"We had a woman with breast cancer that needed some help - her family was doing the best they could to help out but sometimes you just need a little bit more help," Hopkins explains.
That's where Hot Mess Express comes in. It's a women-led organization run by women volunteers. There's a branch in O'Fallon, Illinois and one that just opened in St. Louis.
If you want to volunteer, look for Hot Mess Express on Facebook - it's a private page only for women. If you want to request help click here for a nomination form.
