ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A new survey discovers remote work during the pandemic kept more money in employees pockets. Employees who shifted to remote work say they saved on childcare expenses, commuting costs, and even saved on food costs, because they weren't going out for lunch. Some people who shifted to virtual work even moved to areas with a lower cost of living.

Bankrate.com commissioned YouGov Plc to conduct the survey of 2,695 adults. The survey was conducted online from May 26-28, 2021.

Bankrate.com reports younger generations were more likely than older ones to report financial benefits from working at home. 60% of millennials (ages 25 to 40) and adult Gen Zers (ages 18 to 24) reported that remote work was good for their finances. 54% of Gen Xers (ages 41 to 56) and 47% of boomers (ages 57 to 75) said the same.

Overall, 57% of workers surveyed said the remote scheduled benefited them financially. Ten percent reported it hurt their financial situation.
