Now that the pandemic is over, many of those pets are finding themselves homeless.

A few years ago, people were desperately seeking adoptable pets. Kim Brown at the Animal Protective Agency of Missouri says that seems to be over.

"We're seeing where a lot of animals got into homes, and now they're having to be re-homed. Some of that is financial struggles. Some of it is there wasn't as much access to spay and neuter during covid. So ya, we are not alone, but definitely feeling lots of animals that need us.

Last week they took in 110 pets at the Olivette shelter alone but only had 59 adoptions, so the shelters are full. That makes things crowded and loud, which can be stressful for the animals. Brown is hoping people will consider fostering an animal or two. She says they make it easy and will give you all needed supplies.
