84-year-old who drove into 800-foot ditch rescued

After driving off a ridge into an 800-foot ditch, a woman in her 80s survived and was rescued by first responders in Idaho this weekend.

According to Bonneville County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue, backcountry deputies and others “responded to Skyline Ridge near Brockman road,” Sunday, where a pair of hunters had found the women’s car. She had driven off-road the night before.

East Idaho News reported that the woman who drove off the ridge was 84 years old.

“They were able to get her out of there. She was too frail to get up the steep embankment,” said Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt.
Bryan Lovell. While she was mostly unharmed, she was transported via ambulance Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

Skyline Ridge in the area of a 400-mile system of snowmobile trails maintained by Bonneville County Parks and Recreation. These trails extend from Bone, Idaho, to Alpine, Wyo., and through the backcountry of Bonneville County in the Brockman area.

“Amazingly she was relatively unharmed and transported by ambulance as a precaution,” said a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office. “We commend the hunters, from Wisconsin and Minnesota, who lost a whole day of hunting but provided such a valuable service to this patient and our community.”
