WASHINGTON D.C. (KNX) - The Air Force granted religious exemptions from the mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations to nine airmen.

In the Air Force’s weekly COVID-19 stats report, eight exemptions were reported as being granted after they were requested, while one was granted after an appeal.
The Air Force is the second military service to approve the religious exemptions, with the Marine Corps being the other service to grant them, according to ABC News.
The military branch’s report also showed there were 2,556 requests pending, 732 appeals, and 3,222 requests disapproved.
“Religious accommodations are a subset of administrative exemptions and are determined by the MAJCOM/FLDCOM commanders,” according to the report.
“The (United States Department of the Air Force) has 30 business days (active component in CONUS) to process requests. Appeals are determined by the DAF’s Surgeon General with inputs from the chaplain and staff judge advocate. Individuals do not have to get immunized as long as their request is in the process of being decided.”
