'Jeopardy!' announced Tuesday that much of the wardrobe of late host Alex Trebek had been donated to The Doe Fund, an organization that helps formerly homeless men find good jobs.
In total, the organization received 14 suits, 58 dress shirts & 300 neck ties that belonged to Trebek. "Jeopardy!" executive producer Mike Richards explained that this was the perfect way to honor Trebek's final request of people opening their hands & hearts to those less fortunate, Insidewink reports.
Just last year, Trebek had donated $100,000 to a homeless shelter in southern California.
Doe Fund president Harriett McDonald said of the donation: “We are so grateful for Jeopardy! and the Trebek family’s commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable among us.”
She also said, "The generous donation of these stylish suits will help the men we serve, who are often uncomfortable and unfamiliar with promoting themselves as part of an interview process, regain their confidence. They will not just look, but truly feel the part of a responsible employee, a taxpayer, a role model to their community, and a contributing and present father to their children."
“We have an incredibly loyal base of individual, corporate, and foundation donors,” Julie Androshick, Vice President of Development at The Doe Fund, said, “and we meet new ones each day who see how essential and transformative Ready, Willing & Able is and who want to become engaged. Of course, I consider Matthew Trebek to be one of our most committed supporters.”
It's "something I knew my dad would be totally onboard with," Trebek explained of his donation.
