A search is underway for a crew member of a cruise ship who went overboard while the vessel was off the coast of southern Florida this weekend.

Deputies from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Port Everglades District responded to a report of the missing crew member on a Holland America cruise ship just after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Holland America reported the crew member missing when the vessel was docking in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.

The cruise line shared with CBS News Miami that the vessel was en route between Cuba and Key West when the crew member appeared to go “purposefully overboard” around 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Officials on this ship discovered this after reviewing security camera footage.

The sheriff’s office’s homicide and crime scene units have responded to the southern Florida port to investigate, and the United States Coast Guard has been notified and is currently searching the sea for the missing crew member.

“All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the team member’s family at this difficult time,” Holland America shared with CBS News.
