DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- KRLD is following a developing story out of Dallas where officers are on the scene at Wilmer Hutchins High School.
According to Dallas police, they are working it as a shooting call while Dallas Fire Rescue says they have transported a wounded student to a hospital.
Dallas ISD however says everyone is safe at this time, including students, and team members as they have initiated a 'safety protocol.' They confirm police are on site to ensure the school remains secure. They are urging the public stay from the school at this time.
The school district says this was not an active shooter situation and parents were encouraged not to try to get to the school to pick up their children.
Our partners at NBC 5 spoke to the parent of a student who was inside the school Friday morning. The parent says his son told him 'I think one of the kids was a senior... a senior shot the freshman in the leg.' His son is on lockdown in the locker room.
Some parents were very upset during the time between the announcement and around noon for the reunification process. Students were in lockdown at Wilmer Hutchins High School.
Around 12:30 p.m. police finally allowed parents to go on campus grounds and meet with their children. Wilmer Hutchins HS is organizing lines to identify children and parents. 10 minutes later, students were coming out of the school.
Parents and students are slowly meeting with each other as parents fill out forms and wait patiently. During this time a suspect is in custody, officials say.
Parents still expressed their concerns with how the school handled this.
This is a developing story. Tune in to 1080 KRLD for updates.
