A Detroit doctor has been accused of secretly using his own sperm to father possibly hundreds of children with patients.
According to reports in the British tabloids, "The Sun," and "Daily Mail," a group of siblings discovered they were related through a recent DNA test.
One of the women, Jaime Hall, approached Dr. Philip Peven after the results pointed the siblings to each other -- and to him. She said the doctor admitted to fathering them and "many others" throughout his career.
Hall tells The Sun her parents believed their sperm donor was a family friend.
Notably, Peven is now 104 years old, and was allegedly carrying out this subterfuge beginning before the advent of DNA. He began working at Grace Hospital in Detroit in the 1950s. He was a pioneer in the field of artificial insemination for couples struggling to have children.
“I said did you ever think that DNA would bring back all your biological children to you? Page told members of the media. "And he said, 'oh, no.'”
She added: “His daughter by marriage said to me once... 'Dad, you could have hundreds, maybe thousands of kids. And he goes, 'I guess that’s true.' He said I started donating sperm in 1940s.'”
She's encouraging his other patients to seek DNA tests.
According to a University of Michigan story from 2017, alum Peven delivered around 9,000 babies during his 40-year career in Detroit He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1941.
He completed his medical training at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, retiring in 1987.
