A 69-year-old Florida man is dead after he crash-landed in someone's front yard over the weekend.
The body of Ormond Beach resident Frederick Morello was found Saturday afternoon on a homeowner's front lawn in Titusville, police said in a statement.
Police said Morello was wearing "parachute attire and gear." He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage taken just before Morello hit the ground shows his parachute was open but he was falling at an alarmingly fast rate, according to reports.
James Sconiers told WOFL the incident unfolded in front of his home.
"He hit the ground, bounced off the driveway into their grass. Almost like a basketball, that's just how hard he hit the ground, like someone bounced him up. It's hard," Sconiers said.
Sconiers told another local station, WKMG, that he tried to render aid but Morello was unresponsive.
"Look at the video and look at what happened," Sconiers added. "Why did he fall so hard if all the safety mechanisms (were) in place? Something tells me there's a problem there."
The cause of Morello's death is under investigation, police said.
The incident happened about 40 miles east of Orlando near the Arthur Dunn Airpark, a public airport known for its skydiving facility.
The crash site is located just a few miles from the spot where two skydivers were critically injured after a parachute malfunction in 2020.
