Americans will once again be able to request four free COVID tests from the government per week starting next week, according to a release from the Biden administration.

The Department of Health and Human Services said that it would reopen its website COVIDTests.gov on Sept. 25, allowing Households to have tests delivered to them for free.

The move from the Biden administration comes as COVID cases in the United States continue to trend upward.

The administration shared that with the new tests now being available, Americans should check the tests they currently have to see if they are expired or not.

The restarting of the free COVID test program is also coming with a $600 million investment in 12 domestic manufacturers of the tests.

Dawn O’Connell, the assistant secretary for preparedness and response, said in a statement that the decision to return the program came out of precaution for this upcoming fall.

“Manufacturing Covid-19 tests in the United States strengthens our preparedness for the upcoming fall and winter seasons, reduces our reliance on other countries, and provides good jobs to hard-working Americans,” O’Connell said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people test themselves immediately after having COVID symptoms or within five days if they’ve been exposed to someone with COVID.

The website will remain open throughout the end of the year.
