Members of the Fort Worth Police Department are stepping up to help those affected by the recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. Officers are gearing up for a road trip to help deliver water to those in need.

Members of the department are driving over 40,000 bottles of fresh water to residents in East Palestine, weeks after a freight train derailed in a fiery, mangled mess near the Pennsylvania state line.

Fort Worth police officer Buddy Calzada is on the road for Ohio now, and he says it’s the right thing to do.

“We had officers load [the water] on Friday, on the road on Saturday. We left at about 9:30-10 in the morning, stopped at about 10:30 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee. Right now, we are back on the road to meet up in Ohio near the site,” Calzada said.

The Fort Worth Metro organization and the Midwest Food Bank assisted in gathering the water to take to Ohio.
