The annual list of America’s top donors has been published by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Among the top 10 in giving in the country are some of the richest people in the world.

The list looks at the overall giving from each person and their top donations throughout the 2022 calendar year.

According to the list, last year’s biggest donor was the co-founder of one of the largest tech companies in the world, Microsoft, Bill Gates.

Gates, listed as the world’s sixth richest man, has a net worth of $106.7 billion and donated $5.1 billion last year through his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The world’s fifth richest man is also on the list, as Warren Buffett, who has a net worth of $107.9 billion, came in at third after making $758.8 million in donations last year. His largest donation was $474.3 million to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.

Among other notable donors is Michael Bloomberg, who is 13 on Forbes’s richest people list. Bloomberg was the second most charitable person last year, donating $1.7 billion in gifts to various charities and foundations, the Chronicle of Philanthropy shared.

Rounding out the top five donors were Jacklun and Miguel Bezos, the parents to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who came in fourth after donating $710.5 million in a donation to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. At number five were John and Laura Arnold, who donated $617 million to Laura and John Arnold Foundation.

Seventh on the donor’s list is Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who is also listed 12 in the world for net worth. In 2022, Brin donated a total of $411.4 million, with his largest contribution being $274.3 million to Sergey Brin Family Foundation.

Gates, Buffett, Brin, and Bloomberg were the only donors to be listed in the top 10 for donations and at least the top 20 among the world’s richest people.

The world’s third richest man, Jeff Bezos, is also the world’s richest American, and he was a few pegs below his parents on the donor’s list. Bezos came in at 17 after donating $122.2 million to various foundations.

The remaining donors in the top 10 include Ruth DeYoung Kohler II, who came in at six after donating $440 million; Denny Sanford, who was eighth after donating $333 million; Alice Clark at nine for her $321.8 million in donations; and Harry and Linda Fath at 10, who donated $275.3 million.
