How it all fell apart for Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene

And they said it wouldn't last -- so goes the cliche -- but in reality, no one saw the break between ardent Trump supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene and the president coming with quite so much ferocity.

She went from wearing a 'Trump was right about everything' hat with a giant smile to saying his new attacks against her "can put my life in danger."

Here's what broke them up, politically, to the point that he has given her a nickname -- wacky Marjorie -- something he generally reserves for his worst enemies. We'll go back to the beginning, but let's start with the end.

"I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of “Congresswoman” Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Over the past few weeks, despite my creating Record Achievements for our Country including, a Total and Complete Victory on the Shutdown, Closed Borders, Low Taxes, No Men in Women’s Sports or Transgender for Everyone, ending DEI, stopping Biden’s Record Setting Inflation, Biggest Regulation Cuts in History, stopping EIGHT WARS, rebuilding our Military, being RESPECTED by every Country in the World (as opposed to being the laughingstock that we were just 12 months ago!), having Trillions of Dollars (Record Setting!) INVESTED in the U.S.A., and having created the “HOTTEST” Country anywhere in the World from being a DEAD Country just 12 months ago (and so much more!), all I see “Wacky” Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!"

He went on to blame their falling out on him telling her she shouldn't run for Senate or governor because she "didn't have a chance." Plus, he added, he hurt her feelings by not returning her calls, "but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day."

For her part, the break began when he refused to release the Epstein files. "Unfortunately, it has all come down to the Epstein files, and that is shocking," Greene said on Sunday. Although, that's not their only point of contention.

She criticized his support of the H-1B visa program — which lets companies bring in foreign-born workers for skilled labor. She has also voiced concern about the president's focus abroad.

"Those are not America first positions," Greene said on a CNN interview Sunday. "And continuing to really travel all over the world doesn't help Americans back at home. I really — and I said this to him and I will say it out loud — I would love to see Air Force One be parked and stay home."

In response to her interview, Trump threatened to put up a challenger for her seat, and lambasted her several times on social. "Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!" he wrote in one.

She responded by writing, "I am not a traitor. However, when the President of the United States irresponsibly calls a Member of Congress of his own party, traitor, he is signaling what must be done to a traitor. I fought harder than anyone to help President Trump get elected and I support his administration and the promises we made on the campaign," she asserted in another part of the post.

Notably, while Greene said Trump's refusal to release the full Epstein files caused their rift, the president made an abrupt change yesterday and said the House should vote to release them -- something he'd been adamantly opposing. Does this mean they'll get back together? Only time will tell.
