Kroger is showing support and solidarity with Ukraine as the Russian invasion wages on, by pulling all Russian-produced vodka from its shelves.
The grocery chain posted about the effort on Twitter, saying the products can no longer be found in its stores across the nation.
"As America’s grocer, we're taking action to show our support and solidarity with Ukraine," the company said. "Over the weekend, we removed Russian-produced vodka from our shelves."
Kroger also said it was also launching an effort to help refugees fleeing the country.
"We are sending emergency food assistance to support refugees through a grant from The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation to the UN World Food Programme's Ukraine Emergency Fund," the company said, adding: "We will match all gifts made by our associates and customers, up to $250,000."
The Cincinnati-based grocer joins a growing list of businesses across the United States that are dumping Russian spirits and making those decrees public through social media.
Just 1.2% of US vodka imports come from Russia, according to USA Today.
Many popular spirits are only Russian in name. The top vodka brands in the US - Smirnoff, Tito’s, Absolut, Sveda, Grey Goose, Skyy - are not made in Russia.
Russia's attack on Ukraine has been ongoing since the country was invaded on February 24.
