Louisiana’s film industry is celebrating after “Sinners,” which was filmed in and around New Orleans, won four Oscars, including Michael B. Jordan for Best Actor. Film Louisiana President Jason Waggenspack says it reinforces the fact that Louisiana is a great place to shoot a major feature film.
“We’ve already developed a reputation of having some of the most talented crews in the country: Stunt performers, cinematographers, hair design, make-up artists, production teams. We obviously know the food is the best here; we have the best caterers here,” Waggenspack said
“Sinners” was nominated for 16 Oscars, which is a new record for a single film. Waggenspack says that kind of haul is going to be a major boost to what’s already a very robust film industry in the state.
“Every time we see the Oscars, with a Louisiana-made film or Louisiana pride and joy film come out, it really shines the light on more opportunities. And I’m here in L.A. right now, talking to producers who are saying the same thing,” Waggenspack said.
Waggenspack says winning Oscars is nothing new for Louisiana.
“We’ve had six Best Picture winners from the state of Louisiana, the last one being “Green Book.” And I believe, every year, over the last six years, there has been a major Oscar nominee in a film that was shot in Louisiana,” Waggenspack noted.
